#i actually agree with that chuck post going around right now in parts because this show is sexist it objectifies women and it has stripped sarah of her characterization and proceeded to turn her into the kind of girl who cries while trying on wedding dresses it has people like carina who are only brought on to take their clothes off it basically ignores ellie but you can’t say that in this fandom because no one can actually have an opinion other than omg chuck and sarah are so cute
I’ve been trying to write something on my own about this but I’m not very articulate or good at persuasive arguments. But basically yes.
Here are my thoughts: The show Chuck objectifies women hardcore. Look at Sarah. Look at Carina. Look at just about every single evil woman guest star. Look at that disgusting quote from one of the writers where the dude said his dream was to have a scene where Sarah emerges NAKED from a lake. Look at the fact that the lead dudes on this show (Chuck, Casey, Morgan) have characters who are much more fleshed out than their female counterparts. Yes, I think Sarah Walker is a weak character. Her ability to throw a punch does not mean she’s well-written. I maintain that we know almost nothing about her. She has no interests outside of work and dating Chuck. She has no inner life. She does not have a consistent personality; the writers change her by the episode to go along with whatever joke/story they want to tell. I think, in the beginning, she had the potential to become a solid character, but the past two seasons have really completely erased that for me. She’s a cipher. She doesn’t exist. And Ellie, well, it’s only recently that they finally gave her something to do. And I’m glad about that, because before that all her character did was worry about Chuck.
You can agree with this or disagree with this, but I do want to say that there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging a show has problems and still enjoying watching that very same show. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or that you’re sexist or whatever. Every show has problems somewhere and if we took all the problematic shows/media/etc off our to-watch lists, we’d have nothing left to watch. I only say this because I think maybe part of the reason that post is getting such extreme reactions is that people are probably getting on the defensive, thinking the OP’s assessment is saying something about them as people. But they’re not. And I’m not.
The end.

Shut up. You’re Chuck Bartowski. You’re the second best spy I’ve ever worked with and now you’re gonna go save the best one.
